Finding Dental Insurance Solutions: 2G’s Works Diligently with Counties to Provide Options
According to the Surgeon General, 164 million work hours are lost each year due to dental-related illnesses in adults and kids miss 51 million school hours each year due to oral health issues. Providing employees and their families with dental benefits can help keep them at work and productive. Preventive dental care can also reduce the occurrence of more costly issues.
A healthy smile is important – not only to oral health, but for overall health. Did you know a dentist can detect more than 120 symptoms of n0on-dental diseases – including cancer, diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease and osteoporosis – during a routine oral exam? A dentist may be the first line of defense in diagnosing health problems that could be more costly in the long run.
Having dental coverage helps employees get the care they need to stay healthy. It also can help keep overall health care costs down.
In 2013, WCA Services, Inc. went in search of a solution for local governments looking to provide their employees with voluntary dental coverage. With a voluntary plan design, employers can provide employees with the quality dental coverage they need at an affordable group rate. In addition to a lower cost than they could otherwise receive as an individual, there are often coverage enhancements such as no waiting periods, 100% coverage for preventive services, basic and major services coverage, orthodontics service, annual maximums to $3,500, PPO or freedom to chose your dentist.
Since the geographic region of the state often dictates which carrier has the best combination of lowest price and best coverage, WCA Services, Inc. focused on finding an agent to help navigate the process and work with employees. The search led us to brothers Todd and Steve Grams, otherwise known as 2G’s, a company that has been helping employers and individuals find dental health benefits since 1990. After a thorough vetting process, WCA Services, Inc. endorsed 2G’s in the fall of 2013. Since that time, 2G’s has worked with Price and Bayfield Counties to find voluntary dental insurance solutions.
“Bayfield County looked at several dental options; we chose Delta with 2G’s because of the robust coverage levels structured in the 2G’s plan,” said Bayfield County Administrator Mark Abeles-Allison. “2G’s did six presentations over two days and of the employees who attended, more than 20% took advantage of this opportunity. I was impressed with the program rollout and the first several months have gone extremely well.”
2G’s will assist in gathering eligibility information, work to gather information from potential insurance carriers, and help with any questions when making the final carrier selection. Employee payments are then collected through payroll deduction and remitted to the carrier. From there, 2G’s does the rest! Because the benefit plan can be funded through IRS Section 125, employees can pay the costs on a pre-tax basis, saving employees who purchase dental insurance up to 30%.
Employers are busy and implementing a new dental program does not need to be time consuming. 2G’s will assist in gathering the required employee and employer information, conduct employee meetings, provide toll-free phone number for employees to call with questions and assist the group in the entire enrollment process.
Often employers think benefit decisions are a January 1 activity. A voluntary dental program can start at any time. The sooner the employer gets the program in place, the more money employees already purchasing dental insurance on an individual basis will save.
